Phoebe's story...
Over fifteen years ago, my life was very different. I was three years into my marriage, yet our marriage was almost over and I blamed myself for almost destroying it. I had fallen for another man - someone I worked with. I had been living in an emotionally barren marriage, with a very distant husband. I felt like my life was over as I had broken my husband's heart. My heart was broken too. That was the last of many mistakes I had already made in my marriage. Yet, in the midst of the pain, I was determined to make my marriage passionate, full and loving.
Why had my marriage gone so far off the tracks in only three years? Well, I had broken the Marriage Rules. Yet, I didn't know what the rules for staying happily married were! When I got married everyone said: "You have to work at marriage." But I didn't know what that meant.
When my marriage was at its worst, I sat down with my tears, regret and deep sadness, and made a commitment to change my marriage. I needed to make rules for myself, rules that happily married couples already followed, and use this strategy to BECOME happily married again, and stay that way. The marriage rules I created became this book, Honeymooners Forever, Twelve Step Marriage Survival Guide.
I have followed these rules for the past fifteen years and I feel closer to my husband with every passing year. I can't imagine being in a more perfect marriage, or being more in love with him, than I am today. Naturally, this makes me passionate about helping others who are struggling with their marriages.
When I wrote Honeymooners Forever, I was a working mother of two; however, I am now a counsellor. I completed a Two year counselling course with The Australian Institite of Professional Counselling, (Maj. Relationships, Children/Effective Parenting and Grief & Loss). I find the skills I am learning invaluable for assisting me on my pathway to helping others. I am available for Couples Therapy or General Counselling.
